The Staff Accountant Is Responsible For Processing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, And Other General Bookkeeping Responsibility. The Person In This Position Is Responsible For Ensuring That Work Is Properly Allocated And Completed In A Timely And Accurate Manner. The Staff Accountant Must Meet Tight Deadlines And Help With Numerous Activities, Including Supporting General Ledger Preparation, Financial Reporting, And Making Corporate Payments (e.g., Rent, Insurance, etc.). This Person Also Assists With Budget And Forecasting Activities. The Staff Accountant Has Contact With The Agency Principals, Officers, And Consultants. This Requires Strong Interpersonal Communication Skills, Both Written And Verbal.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • •Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure
  • •Perform accounts payable and accounts receivable operations for the agency
  • •Support Controller to ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close
  • •Support budget and forecasting activities as needed
  • •Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • •Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions
  • •Respond to inquiries from the officers and agency-wide managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests, and the like
  • •Assist in the development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department
  • •Provide training to new and existing staff as needed
  • •Handle special projects and workflow process improvements without supervision
  • •Collaborate with the entire agency to support agency goals and objectives
  • •Perform other duties as needed

 

Required Skills and Abilities

  • •Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • •Three to five years’ prior experience in accounting. Experience working in a professional services firm is preferred
  • •Understanding of project tracking and profitability analysis
  • •Must have strong experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • •Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, supervisory, and customer service skills
  • •Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
  • •Ten key by touch required

It is a plus if applicants have the following:

  • •Public Accounting Experience
  • •Experience with the Silent Partner accounting system

  • •Experience working with state and federal government contracts
  • •Experience with a media, advertising, or PR agency
