Mayor Steve Adler has declared Saturday, March 11, as “EnviroMedia Day” in honor of the social impact agency’s 20th anniversary. EnviroMedia is celebrating by introducing visitors from across the city and around the world to the company’s east Austin headquarters with an official South by Southwest (SXSW) party to benefit Austin’s Habitat for Humanity. U.S. Congressman Lloyd Doggett, representing the 35th District of Texas, is among the honored guests.
“Austin is so grateful to EnviroMedia for supporting the important mission of Habitat for Humanity. It’s just one reason I’m pleased to proclaim March 11 as EnviroMedia Day in Austin,” says Mayor Steve Adler.
EnviroMedia’s CEO and Co-founder Valerie Salinas-Davis has been leading some of the most successful behavior-change campaigns across Texas and the country since 1997.
“I want to give back to the community that supported our mission of sustainability and health communications for two decades,” she says.
Salinas-Davis is an Austin Habitat for Humanity (AHFH) board member. She says it’s important to recognize that in the midst of the great success and growth EnviroMedia and Austin have experienced, there exists a problem for too many in the community — a lack of affordable housing.
“Austin Habitat for Humanity is providing an affordable homeownership solution through building strong, stable and self-reliant communities in Central Texas,” says AHFH Executive Director Phyllis Snodgrass.
On Saturday, EnviroMedia, SXSW and AHFH are recognizing Taylor Thompson, an Austin high school student, at an official SXSW Social Impact Panel and at the EnviroMedia 20th Anniversary Party.
Thompson raised $85,000 in three months to fund an AHFH home in memory of his mom, Maureen, an architect who died from breast cancer.
“Taylor is an example of how one person can be the impetus for change in a community, no matter how big the dream,” says Salinas-Davis.
EnviroMedia provides public relations and advertising services to the world’s most innovative agents of change.
